How many Rickenbacker's are you allowed to have?

I thought the amount of Rickenbacker's one could have was limitless. But I just tried updating my signature over here on RRF and found out there was no space left for the 660/12 I just bought. ;-)

"Your signature contains 269 characters. The maximum number of allowed characters is 255."

I know the question is tongue in cheek, but let's consider it seriously.

Considering there are poor in this world for whom a bowl of rice would be a luxury, and considering there are a few other guitar companies that do offer some fine guitars, that would lead to the answer that the number of Rics one is allowed to have is three. Owning three Rics is not too ostentatious and it does allow one to purchase a guitar or two from another maker.

Let us know when you find that fourth Rick you badly want to buy.

Nope. Three Rics as explained above is the correct number of Rics one is allowed to have.

However, we can make distinctions between hollow body, solid body, bass, semi-hollow, 12-string, six string models, the various colors.... When we do that I do believe a nice 620 in MapleGlo would be allowed to be added to my three.

How long have you had those two? How old are you? How long have you been living in the same town? Depending on the answers, you may have to buy a fourth one to make up for lost time.

How about five? Can we bump it up to five? I already have my allotted three, but there are two more on my wish list.

What if I donate a little extra to World Vision over the next few years?

Maybe if I get the extra two I will sell one, but I can't imagine which one I would sell.

Yes!
My main criteria every time in obtaining the "next" one has been to get something that is unique to the current collection.
So i have 3 4004 models, but each one has a different wood construction and different pickup positions.
I have 2 4000 model basses,one is set-neck,the other has the 3-piece neck-through.
At 5 basses, though,i do find a couple that are favored for weekly use......

Maybe try a 4003.

You must have one of the more unique Rickenbacker bass collections on this forum: 2 or 3 4000, 3 4004, a 4002 and no 4001 or 4003! Haha!

For me, it is also about different tunings. I can justify having 3 4003-style basses because not only is each unique, but I use 3 different tunings. It's easier to grab a bass off of the stand than to retune.
