Rickresource Rickenbacker Forum

Is it just me, or has the overall level of activity in this forum dropped significantly over the past few weeks or months? As I live in Germany, I usually check the forum in the morning, so I gather mostly posts from evening or night activity in the US, presumably the busiest time of the day. Previously, the list of new posts was so long I had to scroll down, nowadays it's just a handful. What's going on?

Maybe it's a "change-of generation-gap" in the moment.
Some folks may lead their focus on more important things in life than just talking bout a certain guitar brand:

I read the posts here regularly, but the journey with all things Rickenbacker have turned into calm waters so my posting frequency went down a bit.
And Michael, you have been absent for a while as well.
And some veteran guys who posted a lot have passed, sadly.
But still the RRF is a must reading to keep updated

Part of the reason for the lack of posts is that a lot of folks have drifted off to Facebook. FB is certainly convenient and easy for posting pictures, but I find it a lot more difficult to follow a thread and there seems to be a lot more distractions, etc. But alas, the world moves on. Hopefully, RRF will keep on going, even if it's a bit slower here...

I hate Facebook......just sayin'

Yea, I'd guess things like FB, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. supplant the need for immediate posts and feedback.

But it is good to see the RRF still quite active. As I travel a lot to some remote places that don't have the web, I actually don't mind the drop in RRF activity so much as it is easier to catch up on topics since there are so many people listing things.

Perhaps the economy is to blame too. Maybe not so much buying & selling going on as five-ten years ago.

And bands are getting older and breaking up. I know a couple of our local bands have kind of called it quits, reducing interest in new acquisitions and learning new songs I am sure.

I am happy the RRF keeps chugging along. Funny bunch here for the most part and a good knowledge base.

Yes, there's a lot at facebook.
And mostly everything is very flippant. But there are a lot of cool rick pictures every day.
You can waste a lot of time there...

These are tough times for guitar music and bands - if you saw the recent Billboard Awards telecast, you know what I mean.

Miley Cyrus and her ilk have taken center stage, and there wasn't one band on the entire show. The current music industry is pitiful.

I'll be here as long as the forum exists. I'm not one for facebook at all.

I usually start showing up more during the winter as my spring, summer, and fall are usually busy and I'm away from the PC.

In my opinion there is a bunch of reasons for that:

- At first we must admit that over the last years every single guitar we own or we have seen - or have read about - has been reviewed.
This cup is empty.

- Then there is the RIC factory and the branch of industry itself. - There is nothing really something new. Some colours, shapes, woods and fittings, yes. But that is all. Electric guitars are at some kind of endpoint (and they are lovely!!!).

- Next: There is the economy. Well, most people had better days already, right? Simple fact: The brutal price drop on vintage and used items.
A lot of people have some other things to care about than their guitars.

- We are getting older and the younger ones do not care so much for playing an instrument than we do (maybe?).

- Actually there is no real big act around that uses (and promotes!) Rickenbackers.

- To be honest: There was a time (e.g. when it came to quality discussions) when I felt a bit molested as a customer. That tamed my enthusiasm much. And as I noticed I was not the only one...

- Some time there was too much "grumpyness" around here, IMHO. - (Hey Ivan M., I miss You!)


Surely there are some more reasons, too. But in the end it is alright. When there is someting interesting I chime in.


And I am sure, after a while a younger crowd will start to ask the old questions and then the frequency of posts will rise again.
