I own a 1965/67 4005 Rick hollow body bass that has a F hole instead of the cats eye slit. I believe it is a S model that was shipped to Europe. Does anyone know anything about this style bass bass? How many were produced? Thanks Holyg

First check the SN on the jackplate.
It likely starts with a G meaning it was made in 1967
The model of your bass is a Rose Morris 3261. (ie the export version of the 4005 bass)
There are pics of them here in the RRf register
http://www.rickresource.com/register/ga ... =0&month=0
Geddy Lee of RUSH was using a fireglo example on the most recent tour
RIC does not release production numbers, but there are half a dozen in the register.

There have been so few 3261s that have surfaced that it is impossible to tell if any were made WB. I think that it is most likely that the order(s) from Rose Morris were for a single version and probably for one finish - Fireglo, F-hole, with standard checker binding on the back only.

Thanks Paul. I’ve seen one or two jetglos with f-hole. One in the register.

Excellent! Wonder if it was originally Jetglo or a refin? Wish there were more 3261s out there to study.

Yeah I agree. Not very tasteful.

I'm inclined to think the one above is a refin.
The soundhole binding is questionable (I've only seen this on one factory Rick, and it was a '64 360 New Style with the F-hole, and believe it was a one-off test or show guitar).
And with such a small batch of these made in Fireglo, why would one randomly be Jetglo? Colors were all special ordered.
More photos could tell definitively, especially cavity shots.

And all the 3261 examples in the register the fhole doesnt have binding. The one in your book at page 41 might have it.
The jetglo in the picture does. Maybe that isn’t original as well.

It doesn't.
That is Gary Clauson's old bass, now owned by Geddy Lee. The soundhole is unbound.

Yeah, the 3261 in the book does NOT have binding in the F hole. The light colored rim visible is just reflection of daylight.
The Jetglo shown above may not have binding in the F hole; it may just be white base paint masked out before the (refin?) Jetglo was applied. Seems to me that trying to install binding in that complex shape would be maddening and not worth the effort. Much easier to mask with frisket and cut around the shape with a blade.
