This was our big project for this past summer, to gut and renovate the attic in our house. I have a lot of during construction photos, some of which I have posted in other threads showing the custom Craftsman staircase railing I designed but this is the finished product!

That's a pretty space for your 4004 to live!

Looks great. How high is the ceiling?

Nice! I aspire to do that some day. Did you have to pop the top to get the height you wanted or were you able to work within the existing roofing frame?

No roof raising here, although we had more than enough Amish help to do so! We did raise the ceiling though; the original ceiling was 7', we raised it up to 7' 6" to meet current code and provide some more headroom for the lighting. I felt better about not bringing the collar ties too close to the apex of the roof as the roof joists are only 2x6s; we did have them built out by 1 1/2" to provide more space for the insulation. We also moved the knee walls out 18" on each side and opened up about 16sq. ft. of space at the top of the stairs near where the access door to the furnace is.

The original space had no insulation up there, and the room was divided in half by a wall with a door in it, along with very minimal electrical (one ceiling light at the top of the stairs, and 1 1/2 working duplex outlets). Obviously, knob and tube wiring, given this is a century house. Now it is very cozy up there in cold (frigid) weather and the furnace does not have to be running too much either, to be that way.

You can see outlines on the floor where the original walls were.

Nice space, Jeff. The Rickenbacker adds to the decor. Remodels can be fun!

I have actually enjoyed all the effort into creating a better place than what was before. We have LOTS more to do with this house (if I live long enough!).
