Greetings all,
Having recently purchased a Rickenbacker, I thought it apropos to join this board. As a member and lurker on other guitar boards, I have to say this board seems noticeably more literate. I don't anticipate being a frequent contributor here, but will certainly endeavor to make sure my occasional posts maintain the integrity of this site.
A little about me: I'm pretty much a living room player only and spend most of my playing time making things up, then forgetting what I made up. Been playing for years and still trying to figure out the instrument. I consider myself a Fender guy, but recently came across a virtually unplayed 2014 330 fireglow and was smitten enough to buy it. Odd, because I don't particularly like red guitars and whenever I had tried Rics in the past I felt the nut width was too narrow.
Honestly, I don't think the Ric plays as well as my Tele or Strat, primarily because the glossy fretboard makes string bends less facile, and bending is big part of my playing. The slightly narrower nut width and the action--which is lower than my Fenders--really aren't as much of a factor as I thought they might be. What I absolutely love about my Ric is the tone and the range of sounds. Especially the juicy retro-ness of the middle position and the punchy twang of the bridge position.
Hope to learn some things here and, hopefully, not succumb to GAS for a 660!
