N,B,D, Early 1973 4001 Burgundyglo

Just got this one back from the Twelfth Fret. They put new frets on her and plugged and drilled new holes for the tuners. Remember she had those obnoxiously huge Grover Titans one her??i She now sports the original wavey Grovers that I "bomb proofed a few months back. These will never explode, ever......

MD dated 4001!! Original Burgundyglo finish is low 90%. Chrome is in great shape, plexi TRC is perfect, Full width resin inlays, sandcast tailpiece and bridge, and checkered binding, Original pups, long pole toaster and slotted pole piece treble pup. Matching original electronics massaged by the wizzard, Dane Wilder. All the factory correct desirable features on this one!! A short while after this one was built, the inlays got smaller, and the tailpiece and bridge were switched to zinc.

This one plays fantastically!! Every early to mid 73 has had monster tone!! This one is no exception. I bypassed the .0047 cap and I'm liking the tone she delivers. Neck profile wise, she is nearly identical to my late 72 4001. She is a shallow "D" profile, which I prefer.

The master craftsmen at the Twelfth Fret did a wonderful job of matching the finish to conceal the maple plugs they cut. They just finished the repair area and left the player wear alone. She is a player!! The neck wear at the rear between the 3rd and 5th frets is a testament to how she has been played over the course of her 43 years!! Her original frets were pretty whooped so they were swapped out.

The clear conversion varnish has really ambered on this one!! She is much more yellow that the 68 4001 I had in Burgundyglo (now Geddy's bass). The finish has the same translucent qualities as the "Geddy bass. The tiger stripe pass lines are present in this finish as well and really pop in the sunlight.

I'm a huge fan of Jetglo but Burgundy is no slouch!!!! Enjoy!!

Yumm! Would you qualify it as being "eggplantglo"?

Ummm,Hmmmm.... I equate the color of eggplant with purple. In all honestly this has the hue of cranberry sauce. Not the granular whole berry Cranberry sauce, I'm talkin the stuff that has the consistency of jello and forms itself to the contours of the can it's packed in!

Sweet!

Definitely eggplantglo. It probably just looks a little on the lighter side because it's in the sun.

Congrats,Sepp, looks like a really great one!
I played Gareth's very-yellowed '73 Jetglo 4001,and thought it was one of the best Rick's i've ever had the pleasure to touch.

I'm about to take my 73 Eggplant BG 4001 to The Twelfth Fret to have the frets replaced too. They're telling me it's a 5-6 week wait just to get at it. Don't know if I want to be away from it for that long.

Enjoy your bass!

I was talking to John at 12th fret. They will no longer be doing mail in repairs. This bass was the last. They simply have so much work coming in the front door that they don't need to hassle of shipping instruments in or out.

That is too bad since they do such great work and I'm 3k miles away!

Sepp, thx for this but I'm only 30 miles away from them, so I won't have a problem.

Do you know which repair guy at the Twelfth Fret worked on your bass? I'm about to drop off my 73 BG4001 at the Fret to have new frets installed. If you know the repair mans name please send me a PM with it and I'll be sure to ask for him when I drop it off.

Thx,

TD
