Just got this one back from the Twelfth Fret. They put new frets on her and plugged and drilled new holes for the tuners. Remember she had those obnoxiously huge Grover Titans one her??i She now sports the original wavey Grovers that I "bomb proofed a few months back. These will never explode, ever......
MD dated 4001!! Original Burgundyglo finish is low 90%. Chrome is in great shape, plexi TRC is perfect, Full width resin inlays, sandcast tailpiece and bridge, and checkered binding, Original pups, long pole toaster and slotted pole piece treble pup. Matching original electronics massaged by the wizzard, Dane Wilder. All the factory correct desirable features on this one!! A short while after this one was built, the inlays got smaller, and the tailpiece and bridge were switched to zinc.
This one plays fantastically!! Every early to mid 73 has had monster tone!! This one is no exception. I bypassed the .0047 cap and I'm liking the tone she delivers. Neck profile wise, she is nearly identical to my late 72 4001. She is a shallow "D" profile, which I prefer.
The master craftsmen at the Twelfth Fret did a wonderful job of matching the finish to conceal the maple plugs they cut. They just finished the repair area and left the player wear alone. She is a player!! The neck wear at the rear between the 3rd and 5th frets is a testament to how she has been played over the course of her 43 years!! Her original frets were pretty whooped so they were swapped out.
The clear conversion varnish has really ambered on this one!! She is much more yellow that the 68 4001 I had in Burgundyglo (now Geddy's bass). The finish has the same translucent qualities as the "Geddy bass. The tiger stripe pass lines are present in this finish as well and really pop in the sunlight.
I'm a huge fan of Jetglo but Burgundy is no slouch!!!! Enjoy!!
