Replacing the Bridge Pickup Surround?

Hi peeps,
(I did a search but couldn't find anything useful)

So I've setup my 4003, but I've got a small problem.
I generally like a low-ish action. I've set the bass up with an almost dead-straight neck with the faintest relief. The bass plays amazingly, love how well this Rick plays with a low action. The Rick in question is an 82 4003. It's go the split pickguard and the bridge surround with the straight edges. (ie like a 4001).
Problem is;
The strings are fairly close to the edges of the bridge pickup surround (~3mm or less). If I dig in hard with a pick or fingers alike, the fatter strings touch/vibrate against the edges of the surround just a little. Not ideal, as I generally play with a heavy hand, but this is only slight, it doesn't kill sustain.
I assume this is why the 4003 model has the scalloped pickup surround.... :roll:

So I'm thinking of maybe replacing the 4001-type surround with the modern 4003 equivalent to get rid of this problem, as I really don't want to raise the bridge saddles.
Anyone knows where I can get one, that will post outside of the USA?

Cheers.

Try Rosetti - they appear to have scalloped bridge pup covers in stock: http://www.rosetti.co.uk/Product/Ricken ... urround-Ch

If you're interested in selling your straight-edged pickup surround once you've replaced it, I'm in the market for one. Send me a PM.

Perhaps you could buy a cutout surround, and then the two of you could swap parts? :wink:

That makes sense that you want to keep the original part from the bass. Good luck with getting the cutout surround. 8)
