Hey guys,

Was 1988 a good year for 4001V63's?

Did these have the same over zealous routing for the neck pickup that the C64's have that can cause neck angle problems down the line?

Were the horn shapes more vintage correct in 1988 than they were on earlier V63's?

Were the necks more thin or chunky in 1988?

I'm trying to decide between a 1988 V63 ($2410.00 including shipping) (refinished from MapleGlo to FireGlo by Paul Wilczynski) and a 2016 4003s ($1608.00 including shipping) that I would mod to be like a V63.

What I'm after is the Revolver era McCartney sound

Hmm... I think that's way too much to pay for a refin. I'd do the S idea you have.

Post photos of the V63 in question so we can see the shape of the body, please.

$2410... good profit! That bass sold on TB a month ago for $1800.
The horns are correct for an early 60's bass, and the necks are all over the place from that era. Most that I've played are on the chunky side.
The toaster route is large, standard for the era and about the same as a C64. Sometimes a problem, and sometimes not.
Play it if you can!

Also note that the original surround is gone... it has a later (more rounded) surround on it.

Hmmm...I thought I'd seen that bass somewhere before. I wonder if the guy bought it to turn it around for a quick profit, or if there's some problem with it as he sure hasn't had it long. I didn't notice the surround being different.
