Curious about a '99 Rick bass I found

I'm out shopping for a Rick and I found an interesting one. It's pretty much a 4001S, with horseshoe pickup and toaster neck, dot neck, no binding, mono, square heel and judging by the sinking finish it looks like it's neck-through. I wanna say it's a V63 but it's black. Never seen a black one. Shop says it's from 1999 and I don't have the serial handy to verify that.
Is it a 4003v63? It seems priced a little low to be one of those.

Also, it has a plexi TRC and big headstock

If it has 1/2inch neck spacing it could be a v63.
There are black ones around

Actually there were a lot of Jetglo V63s, but in general, V63s are hard to find. The square heel is the identifying mark.

I have a Jetglo 4001 V63 from '00. They are rarer than MG or FG but not as rare as Midnight Blue. There are also tiny numbers of Turquoise and Surf Green V63s out there too.... Probably other custom colours in the mix.

Maybe three V63s were finished in Sea Green (not surf), about the same number of Turquoise and Midnight Blue. No evidence of any other colors besides the usual MG, FG, and JG.

You're missing White. Ash has a factory one, it's in the register.

Yep, it's a beauty, made in March 1999 - I did put a real horsie on it though:

More photos, please! Looks great, Ashley.

Got to love those magnetic horseshoe pickups.

Now, Ash, when you say you put a "real horsie" on it, what exactly do you mean? Is that a vintage unit there, or one from an early v63 w magnatized shoes?
It doesn't appear to be a Lollar, or is it?

By the way, loopy, I did not mean to hijack the thread, but this sounds to me like a v63. I ordered one of these back in the late 1990s and the place I got it from was doing a big business in 4001v63s in all of the colors that Rick offered back then. I know Jetglo had to have been a pretty common color for them. If you could post a pic, we could determine almost certainly...

It's a real vintage horsie, sourced from an early Rick lapsteel

That is a stunning bass, Ash. Very cool that you were able to find a Rick lapsteel to get a horsie from. It looks almost brand new on there, that's why I was wondering if it was one you'd bought. I used to own a 1993 4001v63, and since I rested my hand there on top of the shoes, and because it was my go-to bass, the chrome was beginning to tarnish a bit from that. Beautiful bass!
