Checker binding rot!

The checker binding on my '72 4001 is disintegrating and off gassing onto the finish. I bought new binding from Winfield Vintage and I have an estimate of $500 to remove and replace the old binding. This does not include repairing the finish on the bass after the binding is replaced. Is this reasonable? I wasn't prepared for this!

Larry Davis has done wonders on three 70-71 4001's with binding rot.
On two of them, he managed to save the checkers and only replace the outer white/cream.
He just worked his magic on a 71 21 fretter and I can not be happier.
The big question will be, how much of "glu glo" is showing?
Then, how bad is the rot itself?
You will likely need a full body refinish, but again, Larry's work is phenomenal.
Lets see some pictures

Or Paul W. I'd give them both a shout and see what their wait times and pricing was.
I'm guessing she is a Mapleglo??

Definitely some drool-worthy basses and guitars on Larry's website, showing some of the beauties he's refinished.
Joel, I'd love to see some pics, both before and after, if you can get them loaded.
