The good Dr Who gifted me a 50th birthday present a few months ago. A verrry snazzy set of strings. I've finally had an opportunity to swap out the strings on the '68. Very tight and snarly strings. They really bring out the growl and clank we all love

I'm going into the studio tomorrow to track some demos for Sony. I'll be wearing gold for the special occasion!

Thanks to the good Dr! Always follow your Dr's advice!

Cool! I bet they would look great on a bass with gold hardware, too!

Not to sound ignorant, but I've been changing them (and cleaning the bass) like this for over 20 years. Hasn't been a problem. Should it be?

I've ben doing so for over twice as long. No worries doing so, either.

I gave Joey a set to use on his gold-hardware bass. Not sure when when he will change the strings on it, though.

I just do whatever I can to avoid big swings in tension on the neck. If it's never been a problem for you, more power to you!

I figure after 50 years, everything short of flood and fire has been done to this bass. :D

The recording session with them went fabulously. Excessive amount of Ric snarl! Hopefully I'll have pre vox mixes before too long.

Inspired by this thread I got myself a set of gold strings for my 4004 cii trans red. I went for the thicker set 2319 (45-65-80-105). Only tried it acoustical so far, but I have a good feeling already. Hard to capture the full effect of the gold on camera, but here's a quick attempt. Now, where can I get gold frets... 8)
