These are nice, indeed! JH sent me one a few years ago when we found out that we coincidently were born on the exact same day.

Guided by prejudice? Bavarian, not german, big difference! Note: For those who like it's best! Or better: what little Johnny doesn't know he won't try !

Is that pen and case made of Bubinga?

I asked JH the same question when I got it from him, this was his answer :
...I’m not really sure which wood that is on the pen but it sure looked like Rosewood of some kind and indeed, similar to the Excalibur/Frisco.

Well, whatever it is, it is certainly purty! I guess I ought to send a bottle of some kind of fine whiskey to Mr. Hall.

Just give it a try, Gene ! Don't choose German Whiskey or English, take Bavarian or Scotch!

Thing is, I have no idea where I'd get any kind of interesting whiskey here in Texas, although I am told there are some interesting Tequilas being produced down south of here!
I believe I heard that Austin has some small company that hand makes fine mescal or tequila... I gave up alcohol some years ago, that has really played hell with my "research"!

Gene, quitting alcohol is fair enough, but there are some high class mineral water brands around, cost as much as champaign, maybe send JH a box of these (
http://www.speysideglenlivetwater.com/) , surely you will get a Frisco pen soon

Just a random guess...
I remember that Rickenbacker custom made some 360 models for RCA in Nashville to be awarded to some of their artists for something. I don't recall if the wood was specially finished but they had a clear finish, perhaps tinted, with maple necks. When I saw the pen, I instantly thought of those guitars. Perhaps they were part of the deal? Or done as a cheaper alternative than the guitars?
Just my two cents.
