Do basses from this period have a more round profile neck than flat & wide? Thanks!

Cant really speak for an '82, but I had a '77 and a '78 that both had fairly slim profiles, but had a '79 that was very thick between the thumb and fingers. Sorry, not much help here.

My 79' had the thinnest neck i've ever seen on a Ric, so I think generalizations don't tell you much. The hand sanding process produced a wide gangs of variation year to year and even bass to bass.

yeah - the hand, all different, thing.

I had a 79 4001 that was pretty small, but round, not flat.

The early 80's guitars can vary, too, but I don't think I've ever come across one from that era I didn't like.

I briefly owned a 1982 and found the neck to feel relatively wide but shallow.
