I now own two 4004Ciis, from 2014 and 2015, and I'm curious about the fingerboard wood. My understanding was that RIC had switched entirely to Caribbean Rosewood several years ago, but the model pages on the RIC site for both the 4004Cii and 4004L both say Bubinga still, while other models say Rosewood.

Also, these are the only instruments I own with "unfinished" fretboards--is there any special care I need to take with them?

Others may comment about the care. RIC's verbiage on their site needs to be updated a bit. The beginning of the changeover to chechen (Caribbean rosewood) took place in fall of 2011.

Considering they're still showing the 4004 models pictured with the lowered pickup positions,updates are probably not forthcoming.
I use a bit of lemon oil on my Cii's fingerboard to refresh it now and again.
