R tailpiece bracket - size change?

Ok so I got hooked up with an R tailpiece to restore a '77 360/12 WB FG... must be a modern piece though, because the bracket for the R doesn't fit the original's holes - neither the 2 small ones nor the big strap button hole. Anyone know when this changed?
