Schaller strap locks won't fit

Post by PunchyStrummer »

Hi all,

I recently bought a set of Schaller strap lock-compatible strap buttons for my '88 330, which has the 80s era form fitting/vintage style case, but when I installed them, the guitar wouldn't fit in the case because the buttons were too long for the case! Is there any way to work around this, short of finding a replacement case? I'm short on money at the moment...

Not exactly the best- but I once took an Xacto knife and cut out a very small portion of the foam padding in a guitar case so that my newly-electrified acoustic 12 would fit. The liner was then re-glued in. The end result was a tiny bit less protection but the guitar fit.

Never done it to a Ric case, but I toss it in the mix for consideration.

That's what I would do, too. I had to make a major custom modification to an Ameritage case once to get a Rick Turner bass to properly fit after adding a Dingus upper strap extension onto the bass.

Thanks, if that's what I have to do, I guess it's worth modifying the case. Better than risking dropping my guitar with the vintage-style strap buttons...

You could put the stock buttons back on and use Grolsch washers or the similar washers sold by Fender.

True, but since I already have a set of strap buttons that I don't want to widen the strap button holes in another guitar for... :?
