Hi Everyone...

I need a new set of strings for my 360/12

I've been through stock RIC sets, Pyramid Gold (the ones that have too much tension and bow the neck) and a mix-match set of Thomastik-Infeld

I like the flatwound sound and the Thomastik's were good. Seems like they are really expensive ($49 from PIck of the Ricks)

I just happened to see that Pyramid is offering 3 different gauged 12 string sets. Seems like the ones that bowed the neck were what they called 'light gauge, but with 0.046 low E).

Now they have Extra-Light (0.042 Low E) and Extra-Extra Light (0.039 Low E).

Anyone try any of these lighter-gauged Pyramid sets?

I use a custom D'Addario XL set of singles, and have for decades:
9-9
11 1/2 - 11 1/2
18w - 8
24w - 10 1/2
32w - 14
42w - 22w
(Yes - D'Addario makes the "half" gauge strings)

It makes a ton of sense to me to go really light on the G string octave as you have.

If you go with the standard RIC gauges they use 10's on the high E AND on the G Octave which is 3 steps higher than high E...

Very easy to break and way too much tension on that G Octave string..

Just make sure that if you have a six-section bridge, you use a WOUND unison G string so the pair will intonate properly.

I have had great success with Curt Mangan's Pick Of The Ricks 10-46 strings. They sound bright and clear and last forever. I have them changed once a year when I take my AutumnGlo 330-12 in for a setup. I recently got a Midnight Blue 620 and there were flatwounds on there, which I hated. It went right to my tech, who put a set of D'Addario nickel 10-46 on. Big improvement.

I got a MapleGlo 330-12 not long ago, and it had Pyramids, which I also disliked. They were very rough on my fingers, and were probably quite old to begin with. Those got the Mangans also.
