Hi All

I am thinking about buying a 660/12 but I have heard they are neck heavy.
Is this true and is it a problem ?

I find mine to be nicely balanced.

No worries Andy. I confess that I did take a short time to get used to the small and thin 600 series body. After years of messing with your standard strat/tele/les paul/335, the petite 660/12 is different, but in a good way.

I want to ask what's with the oven knobs for only the neck pick-up tone, but I am afraid the answer would frighten me.

Well I am pleased to announce I have just bought a new 660/12 in Mapleglo on Reverb from Haight Ashbury Music Center in San Francisco. Because I am in the UK and the carriage import duty and VAT made it so expensive to have it air freighted to my home it is being delivered to my son who lives in Frisco Texas. The only problem with this is I won't be visiting him until September so I hope the dealer is good as he doesn't play guitar so won't be able to check it over. Then I have to bring it back to the UK via Boston hopefully as hand luggage and then take a chance with customs here. Anyone had any experience of taking a Rick on an airline ? Be glad to hear with any suggestions.

I forgot to mention there are no 660/12 in Mapleglo in the UK and according to two dealers over here none are being made this year and possibly next. Which is why I am doing what I'm doing. I can't wait I'm 69 in September.

Why would you want one? The trapeze tailpiece works great, and is period correct for the instrument.

It's also way easier to restring a guitar with a trapeze rather than the "R" tailpiece - and this goes double for a 12 string. I replaced the "R" on my 330 with an Accent vibrato, as much for the ease of restringing as for having a bit of whammy. I wouldn't dream of putting an "R" on the 660/12.

However, you could fit an "R" to a 660 - you'd need to source a 12 string "R" and then either have new holes drilled in the guitar to fit it (the bracket for the "R" and the bracket for the trapeze are very different), or you could source an adapter bracket from Winfield Vintage.

Or.... you could get a 620/12, which comes with the "R", and fit toasters if necessary. No CB or funky figured maple, but a very close beast nonetheless.
