Gretsch Brian Setzer Hot Rod Model 6120

Post by admin »

Here is a photo of a couple Brian Setzer Hot Rod 6120 Gretsches in Tuxedo Black 2 tone (2016) and in Electric Blue (2010) finishes. These instruments sound quite different from one another due to the different pickups and body thicknesses. I would very much like to see some photos of your Gretsches. These are both nice players with a 9.5 inch radius fretboard. The TV Jones Classic pickups are in the Electric Blue and the Brian Setzer Signature pickups in the Tuxedo.

Is that your Swart(and, gutars), Peter?

Normally, I have not been a fan of blue (or green) paint finishes on guitars and basses, but have always liked that blue Setzer Gretsch. :D

I used to have a Swart STR-Tremolo amp. Michael makes some reall great amplifiers.

The only Gretsch photos I have are of my former 1961 6117, that Jim Boyle now owns (assuming he still has it).

Jeffrey a nice classic looking Gretsch with Hilotrons. Thanks for sharing. Yes these are my guitars. With these Setzer models less is more. Also I love the Swart Amp and I no longer need a roadie to move it.

Not much of a photo of my STR-Tremolom but this is all I have.

Disregard that red thing to the right of it, this image is all about the Swart.

That was the 2012 NAMM Show Ruby Laredo. The only thing I still have, musically speaking, in that photo is the Aguilar amp. I should make a new photograph of what that area looks like, these days. :!:

John: Wow! What a wonderful collection. Thanks for sharing these beauties. What put me off a bit from Gretsches in the beginning was the weight of the vintage Country Gentleman and the "industrial strength" hardware. I was always taken by the tone of the filtertrons and hilotrons. John, can you please comment on the differences in weight of your Gretsch guitars?

Thanks Peter!

Well, most of them are not too heavy, the Falcons and Gents are a little heavier than the rest,my vintage 50's Gent has the heavier trestle bracing so is a little more robust .
The old 57 6120 feels more fragile than the newer stuff too.

I'd say most sit between roughly 6 to 8lbs,but i've never weighed them.
