String Poll for Rickenbacker Bass Players

Post by admin »

Perhaps a poll with regard to type of strings currently preferred by Rickenbacker bass players might be informative. Please take a moment to indicate your preference for the type of strings you prefer on your Rickenbacker bass.
Your options are Roundwound, Groundwound, Flatwound, Tapewound.

These days, I am down to two Rick basses, both 4004L models. The Snowglo got TI Jazz Flats put on it a few years ago; the Jetglo had its stock RIC strings on it until just a few daqys ago when I finally got around to installing TI Jazz Rounds on it.

Of the Rics in regular rotation (yes, I also play other basses!), two have rounds, one has groundwound.

Previously RotoSound Swing RS66LD.
Now DR Lo-Riders. Tone closest to Rotos. Better balance and last longer. Great tension.
Flirting with idea of trying Rotos again to see what I think now.

I had to vote Roundwound 'cause most of my basses have 'em, either Rotosound RS66LD or D'Addario EXL.

But I do have flats on a few too, Labella Deep Talkin' and D'Addario Chromes.

I guess I like a little variety...

I have NO idea what to do with those skinny stringed things... I'm just a bass player...

Bert I thought, at the time I created the poll, that two options would be plenty. The next time I create a poll here I will definitely think of you. Thanks for your good comment. I did not mean to restrict you voting freedom. :)

Through the years I've definitely used rounds more often on Ricks, but Flats are rapidly gaining ground.
I guess my preference now would be Flats on older 4001's and Rounds on newer models like a V63 with the hot HS.

Kevin, thanks for your comments. A fine compromise to make the best of your basses. :)

Been using Rounds for a while now (decades) but I just put some flats on my '74 4001 and am loving them!
