Let's talk Cameras
Let's talk Cameras
I am interested in a new camera to photograph instruments, nature and wildlife (not musicians). Any thoughts. SDSLR vr Mirrorless? Canon vs Nikon. Your comments would be most appreciated. Jeffrey and others?

Re: Let's talk Cameras
Decided to not get one, eh?
Just saw this. I am not really up on anything made these days. But, going by past experience and what some others that I know have, as to brands, Canon, and Fujinon would be where I'd start my research.
Are you looking for a camera with a built-in lens, or a DSLR (whether mirror-box or mirrorless) that you can interchange lenses? If you are used to using a screen like on a smartphone than a mirriroless may be the way to go, perhaps. Me, I'd have to use a focusing cloth and tripod if I had one of those! Kind of like this.

Thanks Jeff. I appreciate your comments. There are too many selections out there for me to choose easily. But leaning toward a mirrorless. My first camera was a Pentax 1000. But I ran out of film.

Re: Let's talk Cameras
The Pentax K1000 was (still is) a very good camera, really. Lenses and accesories are cheap, too.
Yes, there are a way too many choices available (IMO) these days. Start with deciding on the range of focal lengths you want (wide angle to telephoto) for your subject matter. For example, I would not recomment a wide angle lens for making photographs of hyenas, for instance.
What lenses do you have now for the Pentax regarding focal length? Do you want to expand on that? Will you mostly be handheld, or will a tripod be used, occasionally (in my case, I almost always use one).

"What lenses do you have now for the Pentax regarding focal length? Do you want to expand on that?"
Is it even remotely possible to use my old screw (thread) mount XP1000 lenses on a new camera body?

Re: Let's talk Cameras
Probably not but there are (were anyway on one time) lens adapters for all kinds of body/lens combinations. The only real disatvantage was that the combinations could usually only be used in maual focus and stop-down metering modes.
What range do your lenses you currently have cover? Do find that range (wide andle to tele) what you want or would you like to extend that further in either, or both, directions?

Wide angle to tele works, Jeff. There are so many possibilities. Thanks for your good questions.jps wrote:Probably not but there are (were anyway on one time) lens adapters for all kinds of body/lens combinations.
