Duds ain’t always duds.
Hint: If the E sounds like a dud right outta the package, totally remove string and reinstall it, and be sure to spin it out before the final tune up. Spinning out means holding the wound silks against post (just before final winds are done, and while there is some slack still left in string) while other hand thumb and index pinches and slides down length of string from nut to bridge. This allows the string to spin out any twist it got from string winding when installed. You will see the ball end spin out.
Still a dud? Try it again the next day!! This time stretch it after installing.
