Intro...and 4005!

Hi Guys!

I've been a lurker here for ages now, but earlier in the year, I bit the bullet and bought a 4005 as I'd wanted one for...oooh...around 20 years...?! :-)

It's a '74 WB and is in great condition, despite being played lots by it's previous owner.
4005: real and rep!
4005: real and rep!
It's the Mapleglo one at the top! ;-)

I managed to score a brand NOS Tolex case for it, too...just as well, as I didn't realise just how wide the body's are (16"!).
Makes a 4003 look very slim!

I also have one of the 25 UK-edition 4003 BRG's from a couple of years ago.

As the '05 is quite a rare and exotic creature, I felt that I wouldn't wanna risk dink's, chips, etc, and thought I could buy a cheap copy to play in anger!

Having ruled out the China-backers, I was lucky enough to score what I THINK is an Italian '05 copy from the early 2000's in a nice "green-glo" shade...?

I have "played" with this and got to a point where it actually looks and plays very well.
It Needed a fair bit of (single!) trussrod fettling, has custom MOP Scratchplate / TRC, real RIC wiring / knobs (4001 mono config), Schaller tuners / strap-lock and a custom stainless steel trapeze.

But it's now playable! lol!

Glad to meet y'all.....!

I wouldn't half mind picking up something like that greenburst. Can't justify the cost of a real 4005.

Thanks for the welcome, guys!

I've loved Rick's since I saw Bruce Foxton playing one in The Jam!

But I've never really been anywhere near being able to afford one.
I did have a 4001 copy back in the mid-80's ( a Hondo, I think?). It was 3/4 size...?

Ok...but not a patch on the real deal. :-)

If you're interested, the green copy has a through neck: hence it weighs 2 pounds more than the real one. (11.5 pounds)

Also has single truss rod, the body is about 8mm thicker, it had really cheap electrics, cheap scratchplate / TRC, and the tuners were really cheap in both looks and action!

I was looking at a 4005 owned by Mani from the Stone Roses a couple of years back...but it was a little pricey!

It was signed by him, and was a Jetglo '74: apparently he bought it to use instead of his legendary "Pollock paint job" 4005!

(I think it is for sale again, actually.....?)

Does John Hall frequent these parts, by any chance?

Oh yes. He looks in and posts from time to time.

"Frequent" might be a bit of an exaggeration.
