May be of interest to someone...?

Guys...I was doing some online research about my "Fakenbacker" last night, and I stumbled on this:

https://www.scolopendra.it/dettaglio_st ... rumento=11

Now I know it needs some remedial work, but it appears to be a real one at a semi-realistic price...?

An opportunity for someone to acquire a 4005 without getting a 2nd mortgage, maybe .....? :)

Looking at the serial number, it appears to be a '79, after reference to the register...?

Wow that appears to be in great shape.
And that price seems very affordable to say the least.

Thankfully I have no extra cash.

I agree that you might want to also post it in the online spotting forum.

I would give serious thought to that, were I in Italy.

As I wish I could be.

OMG somebody's fitted it with an extra Yamaha pup and active tone circuitry. That pickguard is an absolute knob-fest!

Let me know if anyone is interested or has questions, and I can make a call to the retailer

I emailed them if they could accept 3k because of the altered electronics and added pickup. They probably won’t :)

At that asking price, it's prob gonna set someone in the UK back £4k, after import duty / VAT, etc.....?

If they'd sell for €3000, then it'd be more like £3200, all in....?

BUT...I have seen a load of people saying that the SOUND of an '05 could do with this, that and the other...so the buyer could, if they wish, fit several different middle pickups and try them out for sound before ultimately restoring to orig spec...?

Or, the Yam active pickup might be fantastic....?

Food for thought, certainly... :D

It probably does sound awesome in its current state. The shop tells me it is routed for the pickup and battery, so I am passing on it. Bummer - I was hoping this might have been the 4005 for me finally!

No I couldn't have. No way I had close to enough money back then.

It would have cost you way less than you think, but that's water under the bridge, now.

The fact it IS routed saves someone £4-6k, basically, though?

It means they can fit any pickups they want to try out without devaluing an otherwise "good" 4005.....

The damage is done.

Re: restoration...well, it will be difficult to repair the PU hole, as the finish is translucent, so you'd have to match the grain and conceal the join....VERY difficult!

The battery hole is under the scratchplate so no problem: actually, that is a clever place to put it, tbh....?

They COULD have routed a hole in the back and put a plastic holder in there.....

not to mention that aesthetically speaking, that Yamaha pickup is an aberration...
if they really had to add a pick-up, they could have added a standard hi-gain/toaster between the existing pickups, similar to the 370 guitar...and no need to mess up with the electronics
