Click on "RICKENBACKER REGISTER", then hover over "REGISTER MENU" and select "ADD NEW RECORD", or go here directly:

Thank you! I knew it had to be something easy I was missing. I went to register my Ric and it says it is already registered. Is that normal? I bought it new.

Does it say in the Remarks field CI? as in, Collected item?knightrich wrote:Thank you! I knew it had to be something easy I was missing. I went to register my Ric and it says it is already registered. Is that normal? I bought it new.

It just said that this instrument was already registered under number 65505. It didn’t state any other reason why other than it already being registered.

Did you buy the guitar used? Perhaps a previous owner registered it?

I actually just bought it new from Sweetwater. I sent in the warranty card and all when I got it.
Re: May be a dumb question, but how I register?
This is kind of weird. There has to be a way (from admin. I think) to find out how it got registered, by who, then. If this is brand new and is not registered as a CI instrument - very strange.

Hi Richard,
Congratulations on your new purchase!
To the best of my knowledge, present-day Rickenbackers have a 7-digit serial number. I believe you may have missed seeing the first two digits of yours.
Take a look at the jackplate on your instrument. You should find that the first two digits are impressed at one end of the jackplate and the remaining five are at the other.
Hope that helps!

Hey everyone,
I can confirm that I did enter all 7 digits, and still receive the same error code, so it sounds like it’s definitely already registered somehow. I’m not sure how that would happen, unless someone at the factory registered it?

Re: May be a dumb question, but how I register?
So we have 3 possibilities (and there may be others I haven't thought of):
1. Your brand new instrument isn't brand new.
2. Somebody fitted the jackplate from another instrument to it (why would anyone do that?)
3. Your instrument is brand new, but somebody has accidentally typed in the wrong serial number when adding their own instrument to the register.
If you do a register search using the serial number of your instrument, an info panel will come up showing full details of the one already in the register: model, colour, manufacturing date, location etc. What happens when you do this? Do the details in the register match the one you've purchased?

Ok I did a search, and Sweetwater are the ones who registered it! Says whoever did it is a registered user. That’s pretty cool I guess. Good to know!
Re: May be a dumb question, but how I register?
SW lists the serials on their site so I am thinking a member here trawls their site for new inventory and captures the data to register here. (I have a guess who) I cant imagine SW having the time or motivation to do this.

Re: May be a dumb question, but how I register?
Any reason I should worry? It’s no big deal to me, just curious. Thanks!

Probably nothing to worry about. Just send a PM to Admin and have the registration changed over to you.knightrich wrote:Any reason I should worry? It’s no big deal to me, just curious. Thanks!
