'72 4001 treble pickup not fitting Treble Bezel - any other have this?

Post by motteatoj »

I have a December '72 Mapleglo that was spec'ed and built for a staffer (per Mark Anquist anyway).
The treble pickup is too long for the standard Treble Bezel inserts.
The pickup appears original to me, any others have this issue?
The Treble Bezel guy commented that the bezel itself looked odd but I have no idea.

A guess, but to me that looks like the surround with a horseshoe cutout.
I seem to remember my '69 had a darker base plate.

By the way, it's awesome looking!

Yes, I see others from '72 with that surround too, maybe depleting inventory still?

And thanks! But the back is the show stopper....

Holy mackeral, that back, my goodness!
The book matched neck maple wood angle is astounding, I've never seen that orientation.

Wow indeed. Not many 50 year old basses in the world that are looking that good. A special creature and no mistake! 8)
