What type of clearcoat on 4001 Mapleglo?

Post by Bighouse »

What type of clearcoat finish was applied to the 4001 Mapleglo in the early 80s? I have a few nicks/scratches that I would like to try to fill, level and buff out- but want to make sure I'm using a clearcoat that's compatible and won't damage the existing clearcoat and will blend with it appropriately.
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.

Is there a particular brand or product that's typically used for that? As I understand it a Conversion Varnish is simply a varnish (resin, solvent, drying oil) that utilizes a chemical acid-catalyst hardener that is mixed with it before application.

I'm only doing some small fill areas for scratches- so the durability of CV isn't so much of an issue as if I were spraying the entire instrument.

After filling the few small areas, I'll block sand with a hard, flat-surfaced small sanding block with something like 1000 grit paper...and then buff from there.
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.
