I have seen some satin finishes available from factory these days on certain online vender sites. Has anyone owned one? How has it held up? Do the necks move around more?

If you go into the Register, you can see stain finishes as options:

I haven't searched through those myself to see what the Register holds for those selections.

I doubt the neck of a satin finish Rickenbacker would be less stable than if it had a glo finish.

I thought maybe more susceptible to humidity changes since not glossy.

There should be very little difference, as long as they are applied it in the same thickness.

It's only the top layer so it should be as protective. Satin doesn't allow more moisture through it, the lower coats are sealed.

I would imagine 0 difference with neck stability.

Poor man's satin is take a gloss finish and high grit sandpaper, you now have satin. :)

A satin finish will turn glossy in time, as you arm tends to buff out the clear coat.

I have 2 other satin basses that have that happening.

I grew up playing instruments with high gloss finished necks, doesn't bother me much. That's the way I got used to playing them. Besides, a high gloss finish can be lightly sanded carefully to make it feel satin, and it can be easily restored to be high gloss, if desired. There are old threads on this forum about doing that.
