What brand of Naphtha do you use
Seemas like the consensus here is Naphtha for cleaning Ric basses.
But a search online shows me so many brands and some with different letters around the "Naphtha" part of the name.
What is the right kind to use for the Rics?
Thanks.
Gotta get some grunge off that the normal Fender polish won't cut through.

Whatever they carry at my local hardware stores. Brand is pretty much irrelevant.

Whatever I can smuggle in from other states once a year. It’s banned in California for some reason.
Yet it’s not banned in the form of Ronsonol Lighter Fluid, which is exactly the same stuff.

Yeah, that's the stuff to use. I have used it on a number of guitars and necks. Years later...no signs that I used the wrong stuff. It's safe to use and it does the job. Heck, it even says "Excelente para guitar" on the label.

Forgot to mention this is for 2016 finish. Not nitro.
Dumb question:
After cleaning, the rags must be disposed of in trash? Not laundered like guitar cloths can be after using regular guitar polish?

What part of the guitar can you use this on as a cleaner? Will it work on Mapleglo and the fingerboard?
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.

It dries really fast, and after it dries there should be no problem washing.lumgimfong wrote: ↑Sat Jul 09, 2022 10:45 pm Forgot to mention this is for 2016 finish. Not nitro.

I noticed that Walmart sells this — at the regular checkout counters along with cigs, etc., sort of in/very close to the cashier’s standing/working area.

Ronsonal is “Light Hydrotreated Distillate (70%)" together with "Hydrotreated Light Naphtha (30%)"”
Re: What brand of Naphtha do you use
So, Ronsonal is not 100% naphtha? What comprises this “Light Hydrotreated Distillate (70%)" and what do they mean by "Hydrotreated Light Naphtha (30%)? Sounds like what ever it is, it's watered-down.lumgimfong wrote: ↑Sun Jul 10, 2022 8:06 am Ronsonal is “Light Hydrotreated Distillate (70%)" together with "Hydrotreated Light Naphtha (30%)"”

Then there is VM&P Naphtha. But that stuff is desribed like it can strip paint.
The olde threads say use Brillinize. Or:
Scratch - x to get off the funk, then follow with Zymol to polish.
So that's one way to avoid the fumey naphtha.

That was my thought as well.
The JETGLO finish name should be officially changed to JETGLO ROCKS!
Re: What brand of Naphtha do you use
What about denatured alcohol- can that be used to clean the bass?
Because I told you before- oh, you can't do that.
