I have a 260 El Dorado on the way (with any luck tomorrow). I’m curious how others perceive and think about the HB-2 pickups. I have a 620, and have owned a 610, and I do enjoy the jangle and drive out of my hi-gains. What differences should I expect?
I’m also wondering if anybody can give insight into a starting point for pickup height? Yes, I’ll play with them to get it just right….but I like a good starting point. I ask because I’m assuming they’ll be much hotter than hi-gains.
Also, I won’t argue if anybody just has thoughts on these guitars as far as specs, playability, and anything really. I wasn’t planning on it (I was shopping for a 330), but the price was pretty reasonable in my opinion.

I used to have a '92 2030GF that has HB-2 pickups (the bass is in a museum, these days). That bass was the most aggressive sounding Rick I'd ever owns.

Re: 200 Series Pickups
I'd like to find one of those 2000 series basses one day! I've never seen one in person.
To me the HB2 does some of what the hi-gain does, but it is more powerful and midrangey at the same time. It is as powerful as some Seymour Duncan Full Shred pickups I have on another guitar, but due to the smaller footprint and the samarium cobalt magnets, the HB2 has more highs and really crangs out in the mix with clarity that is unique to these pickups and Rickenbacker pickups in general.

I've always been impressed with how clean my 2030 bass can sound. At one point I was thinking about buying an acoustic bass guitar, though the low end performance on most of them seemed pretty poor. Then I tried half-round strings on my 2030 and found out that it would do that sort of sound better than just about any acoustic bass. It's the first sample in this group.
