New 4003/4003S Neck Profile

Post by rickenbrother »

Have you ever played a 75 4001? They have a nice slim neck profile (front to back). Makes for very comfy, fast playing. I tried a few necks at the NAMM Show last weekend. The necks felt similar to my 75 4001FL. That's the way they're supposed to be, going forward.

The 4005 was sweet also!

Nice to read all this. I was wondering if with the single DA truss rod if the necks would get down to the early/mid'70s profile.

Super comfy. I didn't think I'd be wanting a new 4003, but these are tempting.

I've heard from a higher authority that you have permission to get one, and a 4005, too!

So far, that's never been a question that's been put to me regarding musical instruments. Antique furniture, on the other hand...

Fun Fact:
The late john Entwistle, in his 1975 (?) Guitar Player interview, stated that the THINness of Rickenbacker necks was what put him off with RIC's products.
If the old man's ticker had just held on a few years . . .

Does anyone know the date the neck profile changed?
I have 4003s from September 2022 that arived in February 2023. I wasn't sure if it would have the lacquered fretboard but was relieved to find ir does along with the new single trust rod. It is fantastic to play but feels quite fat around the first three frets so not sure if it's the thin neck profile or not as it's the first Rickenbacker bass I have owned.

I purchased 2 new Rics end of 2023, an Autumnglo 4003 checkered binding satin finish, the neck profile is a flat D shape and is so skinny, the best Rickenbacker I have owned for playability, the satin fretboard and rear of the neck are incredible, sounds fantastic, was wondering if Rickenbacker made these necks extra slim on purpose , I have a late 2023 4003s which I have converted to V63 spec same with the neck has a flatter D shaped profile not as slim as the Autumnglo , but super comfy again fantastic playing and sounding bass, must say these new Ricks are excellent, zero flaws in both my new ones , love the new bridge/tailpiece, single truss rod and the skunk stripe.

They both looks great!
If I didn't have my V63, I'd probably get one.

Glad to read you still have yours; I thought you had sold it. Is it the MG from yonder year?
