Already picked some up!

They're available now already at Sweetwater. I got some a few weeks ago.

Question : If I switch from RIC strings to these, do I need to tweak the truss rod or are they a drop-in replacement ? Thanks all.

Yes, in all likelihood you will need a truss-rod adjustment with the switch from RIC to TI flat wound strings.

Maybe? Depends on how your guitar is set up at the moment.

I guess the question is, is it dangerous for the guitar to put on the TIs without adjusting the truss rod, or is it more a matter of playability ?

Definitely more of a matter of playability.

Even if you do end up having to make an adjustment, it'll be a subtle one either way.

My '98 Ric 330/12 came with a pack of these in the case, I haven't dared change the strings yet and i'm not sure if flatwounds are the sound I want, but more importantly - are they safe for the R tailpiece? I'm terrified of tailpiece explosions!

Totally safe but tonally dull as dishwater.
Just my opinion.

Totally agree, Scotty.

"Flat" both describes the string AND how it sounds.

Plus the old ones are slightly too much tension for older Rick 12s, compared to roundwound strings. And the last time I installed a set of TIs on a friend's guitar, two of the high strings snapped immediately after tuning up to pitch. A $40 pack of strings rendered useless... he had to get on the phone with Sweetwater to have a replacement set shipped out (which TI covered).

That was my experience with Pyramid, 20-odd years ago!

I love the TIs, and gush about them elsewhere on this forum.

Thanks for the input - I guess it's worth a try to see if I like them, although I think I'm likely to prefer roundwounds on my 330/12. I did use pyramid flatwounds on my Danelectro 12 string and found them to be an improvement, but that was to compensate for how thin and "plinky" that guitar was
