Black Hardware Question

Post by mixoso »

Hi Gang,
I just picked up this cool 1990 330 in white w/ black hardware. I've read that the black R tailpieces are "unobtainium" so my question is will it be easy to sell the black tailpiece and maybe all the black metals... bridge cover, tuners, strap buttons, pickup rings...to set it up similar to Paul Weller's white 330. Black pickguard, chrome metal. Or maybe trading for a set of chrome parts? First I am going to just play it for a while and be sure I dig it before embarking on this. I don't see any legit black tailpiece on eBay or Reverb so I just want to take the pulse.

From what I understand, the black treated hardware is morely likely to break/crack than regular chrome hardware (don't ask me why... that is just what I remember reading here). However, you could probably spray paint a regular chrome tailpiece black (a mod which should be reversable using lacquer thinner) to temporarily match the rest of your hardware.
