I am trying to become a little more knowledgeable about Ric basses and in particular fretless Rics
Were any fretless 4000 Rics ever produced?

Yes. And you can see pictures of one in my book: "The Rickenbacker Electric Bass - 50 Years as Rock's Bottom" available from suppliers such as Amazon. There are also pictures of fretless 3001, 4001S, 4002, 4003S, and 4003S/5. If those models are a mystery to you, then you really need my book! :D

Rickless! Still interested, but no longer collecting or playing. Getting old and creaky, but I look at that as being an accomplishment!

Ah, so I should look at those as being positive accomplishments?

I didn't realize I was all that successful until reading that!

It's true. Not everyone manages to achieve getting old!

My Dad died at 64. I passed his passage 11 years ago. To my mind, 75 is quite an accomplishment!

Update: I have no hope of ever owning a fretless 4000, but a modified 4003 factory fretless is on its way to me from a fellow RR member. Its been modded to have a single P/U in the bridge position. Looks for all the world like a 4000 fretless!
I will post picks when I get it! and huge thanks to Cassius for his patience and persistence!

Here is a recording of my former '04 4003FL using just the bridge toaster.

This has been one of my favorite basses ever! Dave, I am really glad you are enjoying it.
