What case is best for a 660/12?
Rickenbacker modern case or a Winfield Ultimate 80's case?
(The Rickenbacker vintage case is junk)
Thank you.

My 660/12 from 2000 has the molded black case. It fits fine, but I don’t travel with it much.no complaints at all, but I wouldn’t fly with it.
Lots of people don't seem to care for the black molded cases as the feet are prone to getting damaged and pushed up into the case. But they have a better compartment for the guitar with its form fitted.
I also have many of the silver Rickenbacker cases on many of my guitars and have never had any problems taking them to local gigs. The two vintage Rickenbacker silver cases I have seem to offer the least protection and have a lot of open space. I have considered the Winfield cases as a nice compromise for my two sixties Rickenbackers, but it is not a current priority. If you hate the vintage reissue case, buy the Winfield and sell the reissue case. I’d buy your reissue case for the right price if you think it is junk.

The vintage case is beautiful but does not hold the guitar. The padding that supports the guitar body, has indentions on all sides from the body. The neck support is so shallow, it can barely hold the neck at a slight angle. I had to make several foam pads covered in crushed blue velvet fabric to fill in the many gaps of the case. I am even considering relining the case but it might make the case too heavy. There's a fabric store here that has great crushed blue velvet. The guitar I have is a Tom Petty 660/12 and I am keeping it so the resale value of keeping the original case is not an issue for me. I just want better protection without having to need an appliance dolly to move this beast.
