No affiliation, but I just noticed that Wildwood Guitars is having a pretty good sale on Rickenbacker basses. If you got the cash, might be a good time to pickup that 4005 you've been wanting.

Man I want one of those but after I sold the 4001C64S and the Hofner Revolution bass I swore I would not buy another high priced bass. This one is killing me.

To me, most instruments not made in a Asian country (excluding Japan) are priced for collectors and serious pro or semi-pro musicians, not average people or beginners. Even some of the high end Asian made instruments are priced above 1K...and some people wonder why rock is dead in 2025. The price tag on instruments is not only reason, but it surely a main one.
Then again, the price of many things has gone crazy.

More young people are playing instruments and into rock n roll than ever. The boomer myths are untrue. I teach high school and middle school extracurricular music and see it with my own eyes, and have heard the same from owners of MI companies. Sure, there is lots of non-rock popular music, but music is always changing. In the 60's it was "these kids dont like Glenn Miller anymore."
And the Chinese and Indonesian made instruments are on average much higher quality than they were just 10 years ago. I have done maintenance on a handful of school instruments myself so this is also firsthand reporting here.
If you're not finding new music you like, youre not looking hard enough. Trust me, it's out there here!

I agree with the quality of the Chinese / Indonesian made instruments. You have to play a few, but there are a lot of good ones out there. The biggest issue I see is weight. Cheaper instruments tend to be heavier.

I wasn't referring to myself. I've found plenty of new music I like. The young people (<35) where I live do not listen to rock. In one of the largest music demographics in America, it's all Hip-Hop and cR*p...even with chidren of musicians,

$3K totally seems like an appropriate price for a 4005v. I’m hoping for the reissue 4002 in “S” livery that were seen in photos a couple of years ago. If they could make a fretless batch that would cinch it for me.
And I agree that there are plenty of “youngsters” interested in play rock and every other type of music out there.

Believe me, I would if I wasn't having to save up for a MAJOR house renovation/addition project to be started late winter/early spring.
Plus (+), I'd want a 4005WB in Jetglo.

We are demolishing the side den/back porch (10' x 22.5') and replacing it with a small "master" bedroom suite that will be 10' x 45'. It will have a small bathroom (7' x 8') in a bungalow style appropriate for a 1917 house, but with some modern updates (toilet and shower stall, primarily), 10' x 14' bedroom with many traditional Japanese tatami room cues, and a 10' x 14' kura/laundry/mudroom (kura is Japanese for storage room).
Lots of excavation and a new foundation will be the order of the day for the first phase of the project after the demolition of the old structure (maybe a full basement under it). Here is the basic floor plan (subject to some modifications depending on how the aforementioned first phase goes.
