There's a nice-condition Fireglo on ebay right now:

but I've never seen a case like that before. RIC item?

I think the case is from a rickenfaker ... or its a jazz bass chip board case or something ...
I don't think Ric ever used a case quite like that

If that is in fact a '78, it's in great condition.....shame about the nameplate being broken at the end....That could always be exchanged for a new one though.
I like the finish on the older Fireglos compared to the newer ones....theres more of a blend from the red to the lighter finish ...especially more noticeable on the reverse.
The case is definately suspect though.

The shape of that case reminds me of a Gibson Thunderbird bass. Any Gibson bass experts among us Forumers?

I don't know about the 2% but that's not a Tbird case.

Well, if the seller of THIS bass is describing their bass accurately, we have an answer:

OR... does this raise more questions about the first bass discussed?

Alvaro, You could have a point about questions being raised on the fireglo.
If you look at the truss rod cover....notice the tip is broken off.....

I don't know if it's just the way I'm looking at it, but judging by the curvature, it looks like if it was in one piece it would be curving right into the D string Tuner post.....maybe a rickenfaker with an original ric cover which got broken when put on cos it doesn't quite fit right?

that truss rod cover wouldn't fit...you're right about the tuner post...also, doesn't it look like a raised letter TRC...supposed to be a '60's bass...not of the raised lettering era, if my limited knowledge serves me

oops, it's early morning. not a '60's. doh!

THIS LOOKS LIKE A JOB FOR FAKERMAN!! A mild-mannered translater from Portugal, who, with a jog of his Rickenbacker inundated mind, and a touch of his trusty keyboard, fights a never-ending battle for TRUTH, ACCURACY and the RICKENBACKER WAY!!!! SER...GI...OOOOooooo !!!!!!!!

Hey, David! What's shaking? Got your CD a few days back. Super-fine stuff! Many thanks.
Well, this one's indeed a copy.
The other one is the real thing, except for the case, obviously.
