this has toaster, checkboard, Grovers, even has the split tailpiece and wide inlays, somebody grab it!
Also there is a complete set of Grovers from an 82 4001/4003 elsewhere up for bid.

The inlays look wrong, they do not look like the crushed pearl they are supposed to be, they look more like typical MOP. Or am I wrong?

That looks to be in great shape, and right here in my home town too.

I think the photography might be bad. It sure looks awful dark for a burgandyglo even though JH has said that the burgandyglo varies from red to almost black.

This is a cool piece; the body/neck may have been finished prior to 1973 and 'hanging around' at the plant, but assembled in April 1973. I've seen other 4001's from this period with full-width inlays from solid material---these actually have a bit of pearl in them, but I've seen some that look like chalk...just solid.
I REALLY wish it was a lefty. Oh well....

This bass is identical to mine. With the serial numbers being less than 200 digits apart.
The inlays are full width MOP and the colour is Burgundyglo. It's the eggplant version of BG which is very dark and appears black until you are just a few feet away from it.
I don't know how many BG 4001 basses RIC made in April of 73 but it seems like not very many.

Too many basses, too few funds.

I can't really complain though, but I will anyway.

Everything seems too good to be true. Does that reserve seem too high for such a beauty?? It doesn't to me if it's as described. I'm considering biting.

Sorry for the post frenzy but I thought that I would bump this back up to the top for those who hadn't seen it. The ebay link still works and seeing Marc's bass has got me really excited about these early 70's ricks.

How dark is the finish now that you have it? Can you see the grain at all?

This bass has the dark version of burglo that looks kind of jetglo-like at a distance but really pops out in a nice dark wine color in good light. Can't really see the grain but the dark skunk stripe is clearly visible through the finish. I was really amazed at how good the finish has held up over the past 31 years, the only place that had missing finish is where a previous owner had rested his thumb just above the pickguard. I had a 73 jetglo 24 years ago that got away and the stripe was not visible. The neck on that bass was not as good as the neck on this one, just like the seller on ebay said it was.
