Rickenbacker Documentary, Why not?

Any film makers out there? Why wont someone make a TV Documentary about the history of Rickenbacker guitars. For those of you who have heard the excellent BBC Radio One programme The Concise History Of The Frying Pan, imagine this with actual footage, and in factory filming. What do you think? Rob Ashford.

Robert: This is an excellent idea. I believe that one such documentary does exist. Perhaps John Hall will set me straight on whether this is the case.

Thanks Peter,
I did ask John Hall the same question and he said that there have been several over the years. However, i've never seen them. Would'nt it be great though, for someone to make a definitive documentary, one that we all could enjoy. Surely there would be a market for it ? Thanks Robert Ashford

No. One was done by BBC television, another by a one of the alternative British broadcasters, perhaps Thames. Another was done by Fuji Sankai and broadcast on ABC Japan, as I recall.

Finally, another was done by a university and broadcast on PBS as part of a lecture series on economics. It was odd how it was wedged into that show but it was a very factory tour.

Fuji TV's program was originally aired in Japan in July of 1992 and was released on VHS the following year. I have a copy right here on my desk now, which contains an interview with Mr. Hall, a factory tour, Roger McGuinn singing Mr. Tambourine Man to his 12 string, etc. I bought it when it came out and I still watch it at least once a month. I'm afraid it's been out of print now.

Tuck: Nice Fireglo 381/12 intro, though.

Terry: Yeah, that's how the video starts!

I remember hearing the BBC radio documentary "The Consice History of the Frying pan" years ago when it was broadcast.
Seem to remember it being narrated by DJ Mike Reid who is a big fan of the jangle.

Don't suppose anyone has the audio anywhere or links?
Love to hear it again.

Call our office and ask to be placed on hold; it's our "hold music"! It's only about $6.00 per hour long distance from the U.K. these days!

Jeez...A nearly eight year old thread gets exhumed for autopsy. I'm surprised it hadn't decayed beyond recognition  This has got to be a record.

LOL - Thanks John, that's sounding like the best offer I've had on the subject!

The thought has crossed my mind to take you up on that, ...ram a microphone into my receiver and bootleg into MP3.
Brings a whole new meaning to being on hold and hearing the message: "your call may be recorded for training purposes"!
