Am I the only one who thinks a Blue Boy 4003 would look great with a white perloid pickgaurd and matching truss rod cover?

Sounds good to me Steve...could look good on a few other finishes too.

It's a color I've really come to like myself...I've seen a 4003 BB w/ vintage gold pickguard and TRC,and it looks sharp....

Hey Scott,
Isn't that a seagreen 4001v63? It looks like the colors have been tweaked, or the light is just right to give it that Blue Boy look. I like the blue boys myself, a very eye-catching color no matter what the pickguard cover and TRC. Very "Surf" IMHO.

That's Simon Mole's refinished 4001 V63 in (according to Mr. Mole) "Fender Sonic Blue".
Check out his impresive collection including the V63:

I'm not too crazy about this year's feature color. Am I the only one who doesn't really like this color?

I'm not crazy about it either, I don't hate it, but it just seems a bit bland, especially since the BT option is gone. I agree that the pearloid is a nice touch though.

I agree with Jeff - Blue Boy is a bit bland. I do like it though and will probably order a 4003 before the end of the year, but a perloid pickguard would really spice it up! It would be easy enough to get a third party pickguard cut, but the plain white TRC would look out of place. It would be cool if RIC offered this as an option, (hey, why not do the body binding in white perloid too), but I'm not going to hold my breath.

For me, this color (like many of the previous year's colors) is probably better suited to a smaller instrument. A 660 might be okay with the checkeboard binding and gold pickguards, but htere is too much surface area on a bass.
I'll admit that Sea Foam Green has grown on me, especially after seeing the v63 with it, but a regular 4003 with white binding is a bit too much.
I could be in big trouble if I liked every year's color.

I'm not real fond of BB either, it's just too pastel for my tastes.
Anybody got any opinions on a gold pickguard on a FG 4001? I am thinking of getting one as the pics I have seen of this combination look real nice. Like on early 4000 basses.

I love the BB color, I think a 4003 BB may be my next bass.

Gold TRC and pickguards would be a nice option for the Blue Boys, especially since the colour and name seems to come from Jim Reeves and his Blue Boys.
