Personally, I think these basses are worth much more than this. I would never sell my 1985 V63 for anything close to this. Especially when you see what people are getting for other basses. Then again, it will never be for sale!
Just think the V63 is a great bass – particularly the early years!
cheers

Andy, I couldn't agree with you more! That one above looks a lot like mine, I love the narrow headstock, the simple but elegant styling, nice playable neck and those pickups! The pickups are just so versatile, vintage tone but very tweakable. I can get any tone out of a v63 that I can get out of my old Fender Jazz bass, but there are tones that the v63 will do that the Jazz just can't emulate, because of the bolt on neck. I can't imagine selling mine either!

For a bass that was in production for a while, you don't see many for sale. When I was looking for one, I was getting so frustrated that I was trying out the C64's. To me, the v63 is a finer instrument
I'm glad I held out. The v63 is a great bass.the sound of that horseshoe pickup is unbeatable IMO. That's why I want a project ric at this point.Save wear and tear on the v63.

I'm sorry if this has already been discussed here to death, but if you take a 4003S, replace the pickups with toaster and horseshoe, the guard with a 1/2" clearance vintage type and the knobs with vintage style - how far are you really from a 4001v63?

I know you have one Jared, and that is a cool thread I read about it, but if it weren't for the ones you are making, there aren't any around anymore. You can't order v63 horseshoe PUs from Rick, so far as I know... And I don't think they've made any "C" series pickups available yet...

Oh, I thought horseshoe pickups were available, or could be found on eBay. So the "poor man's v63" is not such a good idea.

The re-issue horseshoe pickups were available to the general public ... but Ric was making a bunch of the C64 basses ... and I think they need all of them for production ...
The re-issue horseshoe pickup is a nice looking and nice sounding pickup ... it would be a nice option to make it available as an option on a 4003 along with the toaster ...
I think you will see the horseshoe available to buy again someday ...

someone emailed me asking if I wanted a horseshoe. I believe this guy is from this forum-but cannot remember his handle.
He was taking it off his bass and was asking about $170+ US.
WouldacouldaShould've bought it!
