believe the "S" models have dot necks. The photo doesn't show the binding, but then the colours off as well.

I believe this is a 4003 Red BT (black trim). It's difficult to see but I believe the binding is there. The black trim makes it hard to see. Nice bass - looked at it a couple of times and thought about it. glad I didn't move though - wouldn't have got my 4003S5 Jetglo BT if I did!
cheers

That could be a refin ... I don't think it is a 1993 ... the headstock looks wrong for that year ... it looks older ... that is not a s model ... but I don't see binding ...

If you look at the larger center pic, you can see a very fine line of black binding,...at least I can,...I dunno maybe its the bud lights.

I would still peg that as an 80's bass ...

I think so too, the color correction is "off" in the photo, too much green, looks like phosphorescent lighting. I think it does have black trim, very 80's.
A friend of mine used to have a MG with all black trim and plastic during the late 80's. I kind of like them, the red, if they would sell it cheap enough, maybe. Not that popular of a combination of colors nowadays.
Now, if you want to see what a "S" model looks like, there is one on Ebay right now. Check my link below.

What the heck, it's so beautiful, nice contrast with the FG finish and the embroidered Asian silk, I have to post it.

I've been told by someone who is complete RIC crazy, and was almost the distributer for The Netherlands, that the S-0serie was special produced for Europe, as the necks are somewhat thicker, and thus less prone to bending, warping and twisting.
When the Fab-4 start to use RIC's, rickenbacker made a special run for Europe......whick due to earlier complaints about the necks became the S-series.
The guy I've spoke about has one......
