My 302 post!

Thanks all for putting up with the thread realigns, cartoon characters, 4002/5 Shadow and horseshoe wannabes.

Yes I did want a BOSS but the gas here ain't what it used to be...

Now a Cobra 427-that would be worth its weight in avgas!

When I was shopping for new cars in 1970, I looked at a yellow Mustang Boss 302. Nice car, but when I read the engine specs and found that it had mechanical lifters (which would require adjustment all too often), I passed on it.

Bob, I remember seeing way back when, at a local A&W root beer stand, a silver 1970 SS454 Monte Carlo. How rare do think those are?

Very rare Gary I think, I remember seeing them but not very many, I tried a SS396 70 Montecarlo though once, but it was really beat, needed a total restoration, the positraction was nice though, I love it when cars go sideways, haha! I saw a 69 black SS427 4 speed Chevy Impala a few years ago, looked just like it came from the showroom. That's a rare car too.
And Jared I'll take any hemi, even what was the old one a 354 or something like that? A 331? The 55 Chrysler 300 had the early one, my brother back in Ma. knows all these numbers, but loves slant six Dodge Darts. (and Valients).
I posted this somewhere else but I saw a 62 Chrysler 300 F (G?) with a 413 wedge with dual quads, I think it was a cross ram, the cabs (I mean carbs, honest mistake) were on opposite sides of the motor.

I'll reactivate this thread with a comment that the 2005 Mustangs have a nice retro look to them. They remind me of the 1970 Boss 302 mentioned above.

New Mustang? Don't get me started on it. It is an absolutely insensitive, cynical re-hash of the magnificent 1964 1/2. Terrible. Cheesy. Cheap.

And it'll sell a zillion units.

Yes I think so too I have thought about those as a graduation gift to myself this summer, I also like the new Dodge Magnums with the hemi motors, get to the gigs quick in a staion wagon no less.

I drove my best friend's "Boss 302" when it was new, back in '70. In Chicago, in the middle of winter, for a week while my new Fiat was arriving from Baltimore.

What a nightmare! It drove terribly, had zero visibility and even less practicality, except in summer (I presume) and wanted to swap ends at the slightest nudge of the loud pedal.

My Fiat was a lovely car and delightfully filled my young and simple needs until I could afford my next new car--a 1980 Saab Turbo 3 door.

Since then I've owned over 60 cars of all kinds, mostly older collector cars, American and European. But my "new car" reliable driver has always been a Saab Turbo. I'm on my fifth one, a convertible this time, and it's as nice as the rest, but faster and even more comfortable.

Still, there's nothing like a V8 for the soundtrack!

My senior year of high school(1976) I bought a '68 Mustang Fastback 2+2 with 289HP engine. It smoked Trans Ams which were popular at the time.

My ex brother-in-law had a Cougar Eliminator Boss 302 that was probably my favorite car of all time....and I've gone through quite a few of the old muscle cars myself....Cougar GT/E C-6/427, '69 Mach1 4-speed/428, '66 Cyclone GT with a transplanted 428/C-6...you get the picture.. Image

But my favorite ride had to be that Boss 302 ....cornered great, huge top end.....wasn't much off the line, but man could it BREATH at higher rpms....

Why, WHY did you have to bump up this thread?? I think I'm having a flashback......Image

I still have my high school driver. Although I don't drive it too much anymore,I did spend a ton of money modifying it(big surprise) and it was featured on a muscle car website. I can't remember the address, but if you do a Google search on my name under "images" it will link you to the pics from the site.
