As you guys can probably tell, I'm kinda hungry for another Ric.

Can anyone tell me what the Laredo is like? What the sound compares to?How Bubinga feels?

I'm a bit curious too. Aesthetically, I really like the look of the older ones with the maple board & the pickup closer to the neck. Has anyone out there A/B'd 1st & 2nd generation Laredos? I hear that the pickups aren't as noisy.
Might be my next bass purchase as well...

I have an older one ... they are a nice bass ... plugged straight in is not too good ... it does well with a pod ... the humbuckers are kinda like pbass pickups ... 2 coils reverse wound in serial ...

The sleek countoured body is nice ...

I turned mine into a five string

Here's a couple of pictures of mine (sorry for the ****** digital shots):

I think that mine was one of the last ones to have a maple fingerboard. I put Pyramid flats on them, and with the humbuckers, it gives a nice, mellow sound, almost F****r-like. I really like the contoured body and it's a lot to jam with. IMHO, it's a great modern addition the 4000 series line.

Nice color on that one Ron. I really like the contrast between the maple neck & blue body. So, yours must have been one of the last maple neck, because I thought they starting putting the bubinga on at the same time they moved the pickup. Sweet bass!

Still doesn't do it for me. I have played Jeff's 5-string conversion and it is a sweet bass, but I have to admit I am too much in love with the looks of the 4003 with the pickguard and inlay. I still can't totally love the looks of the bass, it seems so plain in comparison!
