Hi Mark,
I have a '79 4001 in beautiful condition, except for the bridge, which has pitted slightly. Is there anything that I can do (besides replacing it) to repair the pitted area?
Thanks

Check in your Yellow Pages if there is a shop that does chrome plating.Preferably a shop that specializes in motorcycle parts and that can get a "jewelry quality' finish on it.I've always been impressed with the quality chrome Rick parts have.

I agree with the DR here ,no need to replace ...The metal is most likely sound .
PLating is where to look.

Make sure you tell them that the part is die cast zinc. About 1 plater in 100 will handle such parts, unfortunately. At the moment, there's only 2 places in the entire So. Calif. area, for instance, that will do this kind of plating. One of them is expensive and bad, the other we use . . . with about a 40% part loss rate. This is a problem that's only going to get worse due to environmental concerns.

If you have to have shiney new looking parts just buy a replacement and sell your old one...
look on ebay someone might be selling a nicer one or buy one from Rickenbacker or All-Parts....
theres not much to the bridge anyway...is it the whole tailpiece?

No, actually the bridge is fine, I just had the bridge adjuststed, and a new mute installed (which I ordered from Rickenbacker

) The very bottom of the tailpiece is slightly pitted. I was thinking of ordering one from Rickenbacker, but they list all their tailpieces as "4000". Would one of these "4000" fit a 4001 ?

Petew4001, the bridge/baseplates should be the same for 4000/4001.

That tailpice looks like it should be for a 4003, with the two holes on either side for screws.
