My Non-Rickenbacker Basses
The Sting sig. bass is a real sweet bass, one single coil, and one magnet per string kind of setup. I love it, I got mine on the cheap from a friend who owns some music stores here in Middle TN. It's the closest to sounding like an old 4000 bass you'll get, without playing on one.
Mine is feather light too, they vary a bit, and the bodies are ash. The construction on the bodies vary too, mine is a well matched two piece body, on occasion you'll even see a few one piece, although they’re rare. Most of them are two piece and some are even three piece. I don't mind the Sting inlay, you can't even tell who's name is on it from more than 5 feet, just that something's there at the 12th.
I also made a small change that you can't see in the photo, I've got an American Series bridge, and it was a straight up bolt on replacement with no changes necessary. I've got one string per saddle intonation adjustment that way, instead of the two strings per saddle bridge; I can't stand not having full adjustment.

I may pick one up one of these days. It definately has a simple look to it which I like. I've been looking for a well priced fretted bass. All of my basses are fretless. The Sting model seems to go down in price every time I see one. Maybe I just don't like the idea of buying a Fender made in Japan. Does Fender make any instruments in the states anymore? I think all the signature models are made in Japan or Mexico. I'm treading on thin ice here talking about Fender....
GL ... that's a pretty good collection of signature models ... now you need a 4001cs and a 4004LK to add to that collection ...
The American made Fenders are better than the Signature series ... go into a music store and play the two side by side into the same amp ans see for yourself ... but the signature series looks cool ...

Here are a number of Non-Rickenbacker basses posts found in The Rickenbacker forum.
Life, as with music, often requires one to let go of the melody and listen to the rhythm

Jeff, I was wondering when you were going to see the light and get a Spector. Some guy recently nabbed a 5-string ReBop on eBay for $599 with hardcase. It looked to be in mint condition like my 4-string. By the time I get a new $120 Spector hardcase, I will have $557 in mine (plus a spare gig bag), and it's just like a new one. Even my mom commented on the pretty amber finish. The alder ReBop is lighter than the more expensive maple Spectors, so a Rick bass owner would like it. Balance is perfect. I think alder is superior for the type of bass it is. The ReBop goes at really incredible prices on eBay sometimes, and a guy that works for Spector told me it's the best sounding bass (to him, at least) that Spector makes. He said it was the combination of alder body, bolt-on neck (which he prefers), aluminum Steinberger bridge (available on no other Spector), special preamp, and graphite reinforced neck that gives it the signature sound. My ReBop is really distinct; they aren't like anything else. The ReBop also has workmanship far above the P-bass I had. Best neck I ever got my hands on, and really stable. Plays like butter.
Jeff, you have nice taste. I like the look of your J's and P's.
I have an awesome Ibanez acoustic 6-string (topic drift...) purchased in the last couple years. It's an AW200VV. Paid way less than $400 for it, but it plays circles around any other acoustic I've ever tried, including my ex-wife's beautiful Guild, and the few Martin's I've stumbled across.
Looks incredible too.
