Wow that is one pretty bass! I really like the brown finish on it, seems like you only see these in mapleglo, and not often in that! I saw one about two years ago in fireglo, and I wish I'd bought it. Somebody said they get a more Fender-ish tone, correct? I've never played one thru an amp very much.

You know that would make a good 8 string bass ...

just a few simple mods ...

I swear by my '78 3001. I love the tone...it is a mix of the classic Rick snarl & a solid old P-bass. Great basses that are still available for cheap!
Mine's brown too...Image

Of the 3000 series, which was long-scale, and which was short? Or were they all shorties?

I've been keen on one ever since seeing Mani play one...that and the fact that a 4005 will probably always be out of my reach $$dollar$$-wise...

3000 is a short scale ... the 3001 is the same scale as a 4000 series ...

The 3000 also only has 2 knobs - one volume, one tone.

3001 artists include:
Mani, Ken Stringfellow/Dave Fox (The Posies), Geddy Lee (Farewell To Kings tour...never actually recorded with this bass), Chris Stein (Blondie).

There actually used to be a picture of Mani on the Rotosound site with a 3001.

Did I mention that these are great basses?!

Yeah, i've seen the Rotosound poster with Mani and his 3001 (3000? he is a shortie himself...) - that's what alerted me to that combo (i'd only ever seen him with his 4005, Stone Roses-era). I shudda grabbed the poster when the music shop it was in folded (and took some of my $$ with it...grrr...)

Geddy played a 3001 onstage? I've never seen a pic of him with one...if anyone has one, I would love to see it...

I've never played a 3000 or 3001 but my 2030 is similar ... basically the same bass but more modern pickups, more modern bridge, and 4003 type truss rods ... the 2000 series has the same body, neck and headstock ...

I don't know if Geddy ever used the 3001 on stage ... he also has a 4002 ... I'd love to see geddy play a new 4003 jetglo ... or a 4004L ..

I don't know that Geddy ever played the 3001 onstage, but I used to have this cool picture of him playing it backstage with all of his other basses surrounding him in a semi-circle. Great picture that I'm trying to find now. It was originally on some Rush fansite's equipment page.

If I can dig it up, I'll post it.
