I'm thinking about putting flat or smooth-wound strings on one of my Ricks (probably my '72), and want to get advice from you experts. I'm receiving today four sets of the Daddario Slow Wounds that someone here said were being discontinued, so I'm all set for round-wounds.

What kind should I get for flat-wounds? My fretless came with beautiful flat-wounds, but I don't know what brand they are. They have royal-blue silk on the ends. Anybody know what they may be?

I have D'Addario Chromes (40-55-75-95)and TI Jazz Flats on my basses. They are low tension and are very smooth feeling, especially the Chromes. The Chromes have deep blue silk so maybe that is what is on the fretless.

I am currently trying TI Jazz Rounds on my 4004Cii. These have a much smaller diameter outer wrap wire and feel smoother than many other RW strings, plus they are probably the lowest tension strings made. So far I do like them.

Paul- I love the sound and feel of the TI Jazz Flats on my Shadow. Deep and rich while keeping great Rick tones. Also strung them on a fretless Alembic which really brought it to life.

Love them low tensioned, bright, high output JF 344 strings!
