Oops, I killed my neck pickup...

...while futzing around with the electronics (sadly, I knew this day would come sooner or later! Curse my tinkering instinct.) Maybe the coil got overheated and shorted somewhere, but it's dead, dead, dead. I'm not sure I want to bother trying to get it repaired, so I may try something new in its place... either a toaster or a humbucker, can't decide.

Check to see if the wires are connected at both ends ... you have a + and a - that has to be wired with a good solid connection at each end ... I had a couple of toasters which had the + connection come loose right in the pickup ... the fix was a quick solder job ...

Now that I've had a little time to sit down and take another look, that's pretty much what it was; the connection between the copper coil wire and the lead wire went bad (not visually detectible.) Quick solder job, problem solved.

...I can just see Jeff Rath now...in a Superman costume, but instead of the Superman "S" logo on his chest, it's the Rickenbacker "R" tailpiece.

and that R tailpiece is set up for five strings ...

I went through the same thing when the toaster for my 1968 4001 quit working ... then I fixed it with a simple solder job ...

I'm glad I could help ...
