Steve... didn't want to keep posting on G.L.'s thread, since we weren't talking about his bass.

The bass is in good hands, and is doing what it was meant for.... being played. I actually get a lot of comments from people in the clubs about how cool my bass is.... I'm shocked, I didn't realize that some non-musicians actually pay that much attention.

Back in the eighties, I made the same mistake. I sold my '77 4001 BG, an action that I regret even to this day (since it appears that BG's are very rare...)

"Thinning the herd"... sorry, she'll be with me until the end, whenever that may be. She may get a facelift though. Been thinking about refinishing, but not fully decided yet.

If you know any history on her, please let me know. It would help me decide if the refinishing project will happen or not.

Yep, that's definitely the one, has the crack in the 2-piece guard and everything! I know I have some pictures around here somewhere. Thanks for the posts, I love seeing it again!!
I would definitely NOT refinish it. AzureGlo 4003S models seem to be hard to come by. I got it from a friend of Jeff Rath, it was my first Ric. I played it a lot with my old band, Three Bullet Gate and on some recording sessions, and always loved the tone and playability of it. Looks great with the pickup cover on it too!

Hey that's the one that I fixed the bridge and did a set up on for you Steve ... that baby had really pretty grain on the fret board ...

Any changes I would do to it, would only enhance not destroy. Still haven't decided.
One thing that has me confused, is the ROS. "S" models were not supposed to have that option. Emailed customer support at Rickenbacker, but they couldn't supply me any answers.

the new 4003MG I just got is a great bass also, but it's not the "S".. I guess it hasn't had a chance to develope it's own character yet...

I have heard of a few S models with ric-o-sound, nice bass by the way, I wouldn't touch it either, except maybe get a new bottom guard.

When I got that bass for Steve it needed a little help ... several screws were rusted ... the bridge was missing and it had a wood and plastic replacement ... that cracked pickguard was hanging loose ... and I think the ric-o-sound was broke and the strings were very dead ... I'm not sure if both pickups were working or not ...

anyway check out this photo of the bridge before I restored it ...

Yes ... that is wood painted blue with a little plastic strip on it ...

gotta give them credit for imagination.

That would work okay on a fretless!

I almost never use the ROS, then I noticed that the ROS jack on the bass in actually mono....
Jeff???? did you replace the stereo jack when you did the repairs? It's not a problem, I can replace the jack easily.

The refinish would be to match the original color as close as possible and leave the back of the neck natural including the headstock and painting the wings the same color. Kinda a V63 scheme, I think it would look awesome. But that's just the way I see it in my head...

If I remember correctly this was another malfunctioning ROS ... so I rewired it 2 mono outputs ...
